Glenbard South routs Fenton for first win
Hungry for its first win of the season, Glenbard South wasted little time in setting the tone Friday night against visiting Fenton.
The Raiders (1-2) forced 5 turnovers and scored on seven of their 10 possessions as they cruised to a 52-0 victory in Glen Ellyn.
Less than a minute into the game Raiders cornerback Elvin Walker intercepted a pass and John Hentges scored three plays later to cap a 70-yard drive.
Then the onslaught really began.
Leading 8-0 after the first quarter, Glenbard South put up 30 points in the second as Wes Sanders scored 3 touchdowns.
First it was a 25-yard reception, then it was a 68-yard punt return. He then added another receiving touchdown, this time from 55 yards out.
Hentges scored the other touchdown in that quarter on an 8-yard run.
"We heard some rumblings before the game that Fenton can play some football," said Glenbard South cornerback/running back Jessie Larabee, who intercepted 2 passes and had a rushing touchdown. "We wanted to squash that bug and not let them have any confidence."
Fenton coach Mark Kos tried to warn his players that Glenbard South would be tough.
"I tried to tell my kids to be ready because no team wants to start 0-3," Kos said of the Raiders. "They just came out like gangbusters tonight and really got after us early on. They have a lot of speed on their team, and they really took advantage of that."
The Raiders ran for 380 yards and passed for another 105, but their defense might have stolen the show. For the game, the Bison (1-2) only mustered 80 yards of offense and 5 first downs.
"Our team did a great job of starting fast," said first-year Glenbard South coach Jeremy Cordell. "We were able to get some turnovers early in the game and convert them into points. We kept the pedal to metal and came together as a team tonight. After a tough first two games we really need to set the pace early on."
