Social services summit set for June 8

Several local agencies are sponsoring a forum on the impact of the state's budget problems on social service agencies Tuesday, June 8, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

The United Way, the Community & Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA) and Oakton are bringing together service providers and community partners to address the challenges and brainstorm viable solutions. Representatives of nonprofit, legislative, community and media organizations will hold round-table discussions on topics including advocacy efforts, collaborative endeavors, and strategies to cope with challenges in the coming year. James Kane, assistant city editor of the Daily Herald, will moderate.

The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is free, but people need to RSVP by calling Penni Jess at (847) 768-1263.
