Apply for District 300 board:Community Unit District 300 is accepting applications for the school board seat vacated by John Ryan. Ryan recently resigned after three years on the board to accept a job that requires him to spend significant time overseas. Application packets can be obtained at the District 300 central office, 300 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. The successful applicant would serve until the spring 2011 elections. The vacancy must be filled within 45 days.Sherman wins PR award:Sherman Health recently was awarded the Publicity Club of Chicago's top public relations honors at the group's 51st Golden Trumpet Awards. Sherman Health and Kathy Schaeffer and Associates were recognized with the club's platinum award for the best overall public relations program for the new, $325 million hospital that opened on Dec. 15 on Elgin's west side. Entries were judged by a panel of senior communications and marketing professionals.Buy lunch, win a prize:Huntley Unit District 158's annual prize giveaway will conclude Friday. Until then, every student who buys a lunch will be entered in a raffle. Prizes include bicycles, an iPod and gift cards. Call (847) 659-6158.Touch a truck in Algonquin:The Algonquin Police Department and the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District will host a "Touch a Truck" event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Algonquin Commons. Other participating agencies include the Bartlett, East Dundee, Hoffman Estates and Huntley fire departments, plus the Elgin Police Department, Kane County Emergency Management and the Kane County Sheriff's Department. Also on display will be a Flight for Life helicopter, fire trucks, a fire safety house, a pizza truck from Connie's Pizza, squad cars and ambulances.Job fair in Hoffman Estates:Hoffman Estates will hold a free community resources fair from 4 to 7 p.m. May 20 at Harper College in Palatine. Sponsored by Illinois work Net, the fair helps both the unemployed and underemployed, bringing together numerous participating community resources in the Northwest suburbs. Many agencies will provide support and information on health care, insurance needs, supplemental food supplies, housing, credit management, family counseling and other topics.
