Conant shuts down Hersey

Senior Lauren Wozniak went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI to help lead the Conant offense in a 6-3 softball victory at Hersey on Friday.

Junior Kailee Prasbrig improved her record to 7-0 as she struck out seven for the Cougars (17-5, 5-4) in the Mid-Suburban League crossover.

Junior Danielle Becker also had a double for the Huskies (6-17, 2-7).

Schaumburg 4, Buffalo Grove 0: Sophomore Alyssa Lancaster pitched a 4-hit shutout and scored the first and only run she needed as Schaumburg beat host BG in MSL crossover action.

In the first inning, Lancaster (12-6) led off with a bunt single and scored on Aly Poehlmann's double.

The Saxons (13-6, 6-3) added a run in the sixth on Brianne Lingl's RBI single. In the seventh, a walk and 2 errors loaded the bases and the Saxons scored on a groundout and single by Poehlmann.

For the Bison (11-12, 2-7), Andrea DiPrima and KC Dunne each had 2 singles.

Palatine 2, Prospect 0: The visiting Pirates (13-10, 5-4) received a 5-hitter and 4 strikeouts from senior pitcher Chrissy Roto (6-8).

Sam Salomone singled home Katie Mnichowicz (2-for-4) in the first inning and Melissa Serio singled, stole two bases and came home on an error in the fifth.

Joanne Jablonski doubled for the Pirates.

Nikki Surico went 2-for-2 for the Knights (7-10, 6-3) while Hanna Lythberg (3-6) struck out three and allowed 5 hits.

Barrington wins two: With a 6-5 victory over Trinity (18-4) in the downstate Washington tourney, Barrington (20-4) posted its 20th 20-win season in school history.

It is also the 18th consecutive season in which the Fillies have won 20 or more games dating to 1993, which was coach Perry Peterson's first year in the program.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth and two outs, freshman pinch hitter Alexa Rebecca hit the first pitch over the center fielder's head for a 3-run homer and 6-3 lead. Barrington held on in the top of the seventh after allowing 2 runs.

Junior pitcher Kiley Dolezal (18-4) recorded the final out with her third strikeout.

In their first game, the Fillies defeated Joliet 6-2 in six innings as Dolezal struck out four and threw a 6-hitter.

Colleen Shandley (2-for-2, 1 stolen bases), Kiersten Tinkoff (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Nora Logue (2-for-3, triple, home run, RBI, 1 run) led the offense for Barrington.

Christian Liberty 11, Westminster 3: Junior Brittany Negron tripled for the Chargers and sophomore Amber Monasterio was the winning pitcher.

Leyden 11, Addison Trail 0: Behind a complete-game 3 hitter from Morgan Maize, host Leyden blanked Addison Trail in West Suburban Gold action.

Maize (11-2) struck out a dozen and did not walk a batter.

Leading the 13-hit offense for Leyden (17-4, 4-1) were Dana Thomas (3-for-4 with a double and a run scored), Kim Giannini (2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI and a run scored), Amanda Moran (2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored) and April Markowski (2-for-5 with 3 runs scored.

Glenbrook South 4, Maine West 2: Despite a triple from Kelly Farnan, host Maine West (8-12) dropped a 4-2 decision to Glenbrook South in the Central Suburban North.
