Scouting Glenbrook North vs. Lake Park

Class 4A Addison Trail regional final

No. 1 Glenbrook North (22-5) vs. No. 9 Lake Park (13-14)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Outlook: The Lancers, who earned a by-the-seed 52-50 upset over No. 8 Niles West on Wednesday, are one of the season's best stories. Some might call it heartwarming after last season's tumult brought in new coach Josh Virostko, who engineered a nice turnaround from a two-forfeit, five-win season. The Lancers have nothing to lose in this game against the top-seeded Spartans, who won the Class AA title in 2005 behind Jonathan Scheyer and coach Dave Weber, but Virostko is not a promoter of moral victories. Lake Park, which had lost five of six games before beating Niles West, will enter as the big underdog against Glenbrook North, which features Notre Dame-bound forward Alex Dragicevich and 3-point specialist Austin Weber, son of the coach and nephew of University of Illinois coach Bruce Weber. That'll be a challenge for 6-foot-4 junior Zach Cooper, 6-4 senior Antonio Pietanza and 6-3 sophomore Dominique Spencer, whose last-minute three-point play put Lake Park up for good against Niles West. Spencer has been hot, on a streak of 18, 22 and 19 points, while senior forward Kyle Phelan added 13 points in Wednesday's win. The Lancers' ringleader, three-year starting guard Matt Drufke, will try to ensure Lake Park's comeback season continues.
