Sawvell's 36 points spark Mundelein
Ryan Sawvell found himself in foul trouble most of the game during the Mundelein boys basketball team's game against Bartlett on Tuesday.
It was a different story Wednesday.
Sawvell scored a career-high 36 points, as the Mustangs defeated Prairie Ridge 88-62 at Jacobs.
The 6-foot-8 junior sank 15 shots from the floor and went 6 of 9 from the stripe.
Ben Brust added 20 points and Robert Knar chipped in 12 for Mundelein (8-5), which improved to 3-1 in the tournament.
Cary-Grove 57, Wauconda 50: At Jacobs, the Bulldogs lost despite Eric Hartnett's 19 points and Kyle Ryan's 18.
Ryan scored his points on six 3-pointers.
Wauconda (4-9) led 37-35 after three quarters but got outscored 22-13 in the fourth.
Vernon Hills 76, Stevenson 69 (OT): At Wheeling, DaVaris Daniels pumped in a career-best 36 points and the Cougars outscored the Patriots 18-11 in overtime.
Daniels made 13 of 17 shots, including a 3-pointer. The junior also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Chris Morgan added 20 points for Vernon Hills (9-3) and Brandon Curry chipped in 13.
Stevenson (9-4) was led by Kevin Earl's 22 points and Nate Johnson's 19. Jeff Levitt had 10 and 6 assists.
