Fremd stays in first in MSL West

Fremd's girls basketball team retained first place in the Mid-Suburban West on Friday night with a 53-30 victory at Schaumburg.

The Vikings were led by four-year starter and all-area guard Taylor Glassmann, who rang up a game-high 18 points with a pair of 3-pointers.

Junior Bridget Kubis added 10 points and senior Gianna Abruzzo chipped in 8 as the Vikings improved to 8-3 and 3-0 in the West.

Kubis also had two 3-pointers for Fremd while sophomore Megan Hubbard had one.

Senior Taylor Kosla, junior Jennifer Pomagier and senior Rachel Kahan each scored 8 points to lead Schaumburg (2-9, 1-2).

"We played so much better as a team," said Saxons coach Ashley Berggren, whose club meets Downers Grove North today at 4:30 in the first round of the 16-team Wheaton North tournament. "We missed a lot of easy shots in the paint."

Hoffman Estates 40, Conant 31: Junior Jada Stotts (14 points) and senior Megan Bernardoni (12) led Hoffman Estates (8-3, 2-1) in the MSL West game.

Bernardoni had a pair of 3-pointers for the Hawks, who also received 6 points from Precious Ogunleye.

Conant (3-7, 1-2) was led by senior guard Ashley Lindeman (8 points).

Buffalo Grove 56, Rolling Meadows 45: Junior guard KC Dunne scored a career-high 21 points, including 15 in the second half as Buffalo Grove improved to 4-6 and 1-2 in the MSL East.

Dunne's big night included a career-best four 3-pointers.

Bison junior Emily Georgoulis tossed in three 3s to finish with 11 points. Classmate Andrea DiPrima also scored 11.

Sophomore guard Ann Marie Lynch sank 6-of-6 free throws and finished with 15 points to lead Meadows (4-5, 0-3) while Kelly Adair added 12 and Sara Shumaker 10.

Niles North 48, Maine West 33: Seniors Megan O'Neill (13 points) and Sam Acosta (8) were top scorers for visiting Maine West in the Central Suburban North contest.

Classmate Alli Ellwood added 7 points for the Warriors, who stand at 5-7 and 3-1 in the North.

"When you don't execute, you're not going to win," said Warrior coach Derril Kipp, whose team will compete in the Dundee-Crown tourney beginning a week from today.
