Rough second quarter dooms Maine West

A big second quarter by Niles North paved the way to a 66-60 Central Suburban North boys basketball victory over Maine West in Des Plaines.

The Warriors (3-6, 0-3) were outscored 23-13 in the second eight minutes and trailed 41-29 at halftime. They got within 47-43 after three quarters but Niles North (3-5, 2-1) held on.

Alex Samuelson had 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and 7-for-9 on free throws. Conor Hart added 14 points as the Warriors were just 2-for-12 on 3-pointers and 16-for-26 on free throws in their fifth straight loss.

Duayne Williams scored 21 points and hit all 9 of his free throws to lead four Niles North players in double figures. Abdul Nader had 15 points and Marlon Senior scored 13.

Leyden 56, Willowbrook 46: Leyden (3-5, 2-1) won its second straight game in the West Suburban Gold as Michael Woolf scored 22 points and Brandon Stinson added 18.

Alden-Hebron 50, Christian Liberty 39: Host Alden-Hebron avenged an earlier loss to Christian Liberty (4-3, 2-2) in the Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
