Elk Grove wasted no time getting its girls basketball season off to an impressive start Tuesday night.

Courtney Lindfors had 20 points and 8 rebounds in her Elk Grove debut, Ashley Capotosto had 11 points and 7 rebounds and Michelle Calmeyn scored 11 points in a 58-20 win over Leyden in the Elk Grove/Fenton/Lake Park tournament.

Elk Grove raced to leads of 21-2 after a quarter and 35-6 at halftime. Leyden finished with 25 turnovers.

"We came out with good energy," said Elk Grove coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "We knew what zone (defense) we were going to see and we executed pretty well."

Kirkorsky said Division I signees Lindfors (Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and Capotosto (St. Bonaventure) only played about 10 minutes apiece. Starting guard Olivia Roback didn't play because of injury.

"(Sophomore) Katie and (freshman) Kelly Naughton looked really strong and did a nice job of managing the game," Kirkorsky said.

Zashi Vasquez led Leyden with 9 points.

Prospect 56, Libertyville 47: Senior Lexi Glennon (13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals), Rachel Hunt (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 block) and Sarah Winans (11 points, 4 rebounds) led Prospect in the season-opening road victory. Alyssa Baker led the Knights with 7 rebounds while Sarah Hunt and Marissa Pettenuzzo also added 4.

Conant 36, Addison Trail 32: Conant was trailing Addison Trail into the fourth quarter of its nonconference opener.

But the Cougars used a 12-4 advantage in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory as Ashley Lindeman and Alyssa Rawleigh scored 11 points apiece.

Rawleigh hit three 3-pointers as the Cougars rallied from deficits of 18-15 at halftime and 28-24 after three.

Hoffman 52, Lake Park 43: Jada Stotts scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as Hoffman Estates won its opener in the Elk Grove/Fenton/Lake Park tournament.

Precious Ogunleye added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Megan Bernardoni scored 10 points and hit two 3-pointers and Kelsey Lukowicz added 8 points for the Hawks.

Niles West 48, Hersey 44: In a game which Hersey led at times, host Niles West prevailed behind highly-regarded 5-foot-9 sophomore guard Jewell Loyd's 26 points in Skokie.

Hersey was led by senior Julia Fredian's 17 points and 6 assists while junior Megan Rogowski added 13. Maddie Swan and Eileen Zydek each added 6 for the Huskies.

Christian Liberty (Arlington Heights) 33, Westlake Christian (Grayslake) 19: Brittany Negron (11 points, 10 rebounds), Holly Swiderek (8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists) and

Sam Elleson (8 points, 3 rebounds , 2 steals) led the visiting Chargers of Arlington Heights in their first IHSA girls basketball game.

Amy Farmer, one of the top attackers for the Chargers' Class 1A regional championship volleyball team, grabbed 9 rebounds in the season opener while another frontline volleyball hitter Annie Salsgiver had 4 assists.

Carmel 50, Meadows 38: Carmel pulled away in the second half to the Mundelein tournament victory despite a team-high 15 points from Rolling Meadows' Ashley Rios.

The game was tied 22-22 at halftime but Carmel outscored Meadows 11-5 in the third.

Amanda Gunn added 7 points for Meadows.
