Smoky fire of wood and refuse at Cary industrial property

A large fire at a Cary industrial property kept firefighters from several departments busy and sent think waves of dark smoke across the area Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out in what appeared to be a pile of wood and refuse located on the property of Lowe Enterprises along Route 14, west of the village's downtown.

At least six fire trucks and tankers were on the scene as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Smoke from the blaze was visible clearly at Cary-Grove High School, which hosted a state football playoff game Saturday afternoon.
