Scouting North Chicago @ Grant

Last week: North Chicago lost to Wauconda, 41-12; Grant lost to Vernon Hills, 17-7.

Skinny: It's the final game of the season for two teams that have been two of the better ones in the North Suburban Prairie Division this decade. Grant, which is just two years removed from an undefeated regular season, will miss the state playoffs for the first time since 2004 and first time ever under coach Kurt Rous. Bulldogs senior quarterback Justin Cokefair, who ranks among the Daily Herald Lake County area top leaders in rushing yards (821 yards) and touchdowns (12), will not play after injuring his knee in the second quarter against Vernon Hills last Friday. Cokefair watched the second half on crutches. Rous said junior Leo Minne will start at quarterback and will be backed up by sophomore Alex Villa. ... North Chicago, under the direction of first-year coach Glen Kozlowski, will miss the postseason for the third year in a row. The Warhawks' only win came against Round Lake, 30-8, in Week 6.
