Elgin freshman Sirinit qualifies for state

Elgin freshman Jacey Sirinit led the list of state qualifiers Friday at the Elgin girls tennis sectional, which was played at Centre Courts in Hanover Park.

Sirinit went 3-0 on the day and will face Streamwood's Jennifer Mellenthin in one semifinal this morning. The top four finishers in singles and doubles qualify for next week's state finals.

The other singles semifinal today will pit Kate Hougland of Hampshire against Elgin Academy's Bianca Swegler.

Hougland and the Hampshire doubles team of Kelsey Burke and Vanassa Patthana became the first Whip-Purs to ever qualify for state on Friday. Burke-Patthana will take on Jacobs' Marcllyn Rowan-Lauren Steinkamp in one doubles semifinal while Jacobs' Kassandra Bernardo-Lindsey Gardeck face Huntley's Sam Chapman-Ashley Pietrusiak in the other semi.

Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today at Elgin High. If bad weather forces the finals indoors, they will again be played at Centre Courts, which is located at 1919 Walnut Ave., in Hanover Park.
