When 7:30 p.m. today

Last week Wauconda lost to Grant, 40-18; Vernon Hills def. Antioch, 14-0.

Skinny Vernon Hills enjoys a one-game lead in the NSC Prairie and a victory tonight will put the Cougars in position to win the division championship outright when they host Grant next week. First thing's first, though. Wauconda is reeling with three straight losses under first-year coach Dave Mills, but the Bulldogs will have upset on their minds tonight. A loss will officially eliminate them from playoff contention. The Bulldogs will have face a Vernon Hills defense that has shut out its last two opponents (Round Lake and Antioch). While Round Lake has scored an NSC-low 23 points, Antioch came into last Friday's game averaging 34.2 points per game. Two-way starters E.J. Lannan and Chris Morgan led the Cougars' defensive effort against the Sequoits. Linebacker Lannan and safety DaVaris Daniels each had interceptions. ... Counting a Week-3 forfeit win against North Chicago, Vernon Hills has 3 shutouts. ... Despite its loss to Grant last Saturday, Wauconda got what Mills called an "outstanding" game from running back Kevin Jones, who rushed for 105 yards on 11 carries. He busted off a 55-yard TD run.
