Maine West wins Elk Grove regional

Maine West's Ryan Johnson was the individual runner-up with a 77 at Fox Run to help Maine West earn the top team finish and sectional advancement out of the Class 3A boys golf regional meet hosted by Elk Grove on Tuesday.

Patrick Cermak of St. Patrick was medalist with a 75.

The Warriors shot 333, topping Maine South by 6 strokes and St. Patrick by 17. All three will compete in sectional action next week at Sportsman's.

Other counting scores from Maine West came from Evan Haase and Scott Moozakis (85s) and Kyle Hecker (86).

Lake Park (353) had three individual qualifiers - Brian McKeown (84), Troy Butler (85) and Max Gordon (87).

Elk Grove (362) had two individual qualifiers - Adam Dill (85) and Ryan White (87).

New Trier regional: New Trier fired a 301 to win the regional it hosted at Winnetka Golf Course, topping runner-up Loyola (314) and Glenbrook North (322). Trevians senior Michael Hermanson was medalist with a 70.

Wheeling shot 351 and finished in seventh place. The Wildcats will be represented in the sectional by freshman Jack Ferguson, who shot 82.
