Scouting WW South @ Wheaton North
WW South (4-1, 3-0) at Wheaton North (3-2, 2-1)
Game time 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Last week WW South 38, Naperville North 7; Wheaton North 24, West Aurora 13.
Last year WW South 45, Wheaton North 14.
Outlook WW South hasn't lost the cross-town game since 2002. The Tigers have been extremely strong since a Week 2 loss to Maine South. The dual quarterback situation gained some clarity last week when Reilly O'Toole played virtually the entire game. The junior shined, completing 12 of 21 passes for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 51 yards and 2 scores. Mack Tracey remained dangerous at receiver. Running back Matt Rogers had 66 rushing yards while replacing injured Julian Banuelos. Epitomizing team improvement, the Tigers' defense keeps getting better bolstered by linebacker Mike Heaten, cornerback Shane Dierking and lineman Matt Ives. Kicker Nick Immekus is a special teams difference-maker. Wheaton North is still without Ohio State-bound quarterback Taylor Graham because of a knee injury. Running back Ivan Tamba, however, returned from an ankle sprain and saw limited action last week. He brings needed depth to the skill positions. Defensive strength comes up front with Sam Weatherred and in the secondary with Carson Rajcan and Mark Evangelista.
