Scouting Glenbard South @ Kaneland
Glenbard South (3-2, 2-1) at Kaneland (4-1, 3-0)
Game time 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Last week Glenbard South 21, DeKalb 14; Kaneland 21, Batavia 17.
Last year Glenbard South 47, Kaneland 31.
Outlook Glenbard South's hopes of claiming the final Western Sun Conference title rest on this game. The Raiders need to beat Kaneland, run the table and get some help against Geneva ... possibly from the Knights themselves in Week 8. Playing without standout defensive end Austin Teitsma because of injury, the Raiders' defense still hounded DeKalb while forcing 3 turnovers and notching 6 sacks, 2 by Pat Childs. Linebacker Nick Slezak, also a receiver, is a force on both sides of the ball. The offense was pretty limited last week due to the sloppy conditions - epitomized by its 5 turnovers - but quarterback Trace Wanless and Connor Douglas each rushed for 80 yards as the Raiders piled up 263 of their 303 total yards on the ground. Kaneland thrives with the passing game of junior quarterback Joe Camiliere, who's thrown for 1,366 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's also accounted for 259 of the team's 449 rushing yards. Among the many quality Kaneland receivers, Camiliere's top targets are Ryley Bailey and Blake Serpa, who have combined for 50 catches, 700 yards and 7 touchdowns.
