Local teens honored:

Two high school students from Lake County have been named semifinalists in the 46th annual National Achievement Scholarship program. Marina M. Williams of Warren Township High School in Gurnee and Kassielle R. McKinley of Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest earned the honors. They are now eligible for about 800 Achievement Scholarship Awards totaling $2.6 million.

Sente to meet constituents:

In an effort to reach out to the community, newly seated state Rep. Carol Sente is inviting residents of the 59th District to join her on Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a town-hall meeting at the Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview, Vernon Hills. The gathering will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Sente, a Vernon Hills Democrat was appointed to the post Sept. 12 to replace Kathy Ryg, who had resigned.

Orchesis show scheduled:

Mundelein High School's fall Orchesis dance recital is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. The show will feature dances from the Orchesis Club, school dance students and local youth. Tickets are $4 for adults or $3 for students and senior citizens.

Antioch looking for creative teens:

A contest to design a new teen Web page banner head for the Antioch Public Library District was launched this week. Teens, ages 13-18, are eligible to submit their original artwork for consideration. Pick up a packet with full rules and entry form at the Adult Reference desk. Deadline to enter is Monday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m. Call (847) 395-0874 ext. 260 for details.
