McHenry Co. breast cancer walk steps off Oct. 3

The third annual McHenry Community Walk for Breast Cancer will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, with registration opening at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10 a.m. The walk will begin (and end) at the gazebo in Fort McHenry Park, just off Route 120 at the Whispering Oaks entrance. It will wind through the Whispering Oaks subdivision. Totaling a distance of three miles, walkers are encouraged but not required to complete the entire route.

This community walk is part of a two-city, two-sister effort to raise money for breast cancer research. Organized by McHenry resident Ange Powell and her sister-in law, Terri Powell of Colby, Wis., a second walk will take place in Colby on May 1. All proceeds from both walks are donated to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

There is no entry fee to participate and participants should turn in their pledges the day of the walk. For more information, to register or to print a pledge sheet, visit communitywalkforbreastcancer.org or call Ange Powell at (815) 245-2561.
