Scouting: Crystal Lake S. @ Prairie Ridge
Crystal Lake South (3-0) at Prairie Ridge (2-1)
When: today at 7:15 p.m.
Last year: Crystal Lake South 31, Prairie Ridge 14
Last week: CL South 35, Grayslake Central 0; Prairie Ridge 27, Jacobs 10
Outlook: These District 155 rivals have met 10 times since Prairie Ridge joined the Fox Valley Conference in 1997. The Gators hold a 6-4 lead in the series, which resumed last year after a two-year sabbatical. CL South, The No. 7 team in The Associated Press Class 7A poll, will be tested on the road by the Wolves, who spoiled Jacobs' homecoming last week with an impressive victory. However, Prairie Ridge reportedly lost one of its key rushers to injury in the Jacobs game, when junior Bob Maxey suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Gator defense has pitched consecutive shutouts against Bartlett and Grayslake Central and has allowed only 7 points this season. That doesn't mean they aren't wary in a Crystal Lake rivalry game against the Wolves, who average 27.3 points per game. "They've got a couple of really quick backs," Gators coach Jim Stuglis said of PR. "Their defense played pretty well against Jacobs. If we play our kind of football, I think we'll be OK." CL South cornerback Alec Giles has made an interception in each of the Gators' three wins, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns. Junior quarterback Drew Ormseth has completed 11-of-24 attempts for 165 yards and 5 TDs.
