Wadsworth Road to close:
Wadsworth Road east of Delany Road will close for six hours beginning at 9 a.m. Friday. The Union Pacific Railroad, in cooperation with the Lake County Division of Transportation, will close the road to replace a broken rail. A signed detour will use Delany, York House and Green Bay roads, Route 131.
Lawsuit filed in boat crash:
A lawsuit has been filed by a woman injured in a boat crash on Nippersink Lake on Aug. 15. Brenda Schmid of Palatine is seeking an unspecified amount of damages from the operators of both boats, who sheriff's police said were intoxicated at the time of the crash. According to the suit filed by the Waukegan firm of Salvi, Schostok and Pritchard, Schmid was a passenger in a boat operated by Mark Holmquist of Fox Lake. Holmquist's boat collided with a boat operated by David Caplan of Glenview and capsized. Holmquist was trapped under water for a time and wound up being treated at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Both Holmquist and Caplan were charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and are due in court Oct. 9.
Wauconda Township hosts property assessment seminar:
Wauconda Township hosts a public seminar on property assessment Monday, Sept. 14 in the Wauconda High School auditorium, said Wauconda Township Assessor Pat Oaks. The seminar will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include a presentation by Lake County Chief Assessment Officer Martin Paulson. Paulson will discuss property taxes, property assessment evaluation and appeals. Paulson will answer questions after his presentation.
Sexual assault arrest:
Waukegan police said Thursday that 20-year-old Dennis McGowan has been charged with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. Lt. Edward Fitzgerald said police were called Tuesday to the 900 block of Muirfield Avenue after a woman discovered text messages from McGowan on her daughter's cell phone. McGowan, who lives in that area, was interviewed by police and is believed to have raped the girl last month when both were staying with a relative of the girl. He is charged with predatory sexual assault of a child and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Associate Judge Raymond Collins set McGowan's bond at $250,000 and ordered him to appear in court Oct. 6.
