Thursday's Fox Valley roundup

The Hampshire girls volleyball team got an all-around team effort Thursday night as the Whip-Purs easily handled Oregon in nonconference action at home 25-15, 25-11.

Amy Wehrs played strong both offensively and defensively for the Whips (5-2) as she recorded 9 kills and 8 digs. Kara Wehrs also chipped in registering 7 kills and 9 assists while Libby Leighanne added 11 assists. Hampshire's defense was led by Tia Incaprio with 13 digs and Cassie Dumoulin with 4 blocks.

St. Francis d. St. Edward: The Green Wave (0-2, 0-2) suffered their second consecutive Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division loss falling to St. Francis on the road 25-10, 25-11. Sarah Norman led the Green Wave with 11 digs while Katie Ayello recorded 8 digs.

Lake Park d. South Elgin: The Storm (1-5-1, 0-1) played tough with Lake Park in this Upstate Eight Conference matchup but they were unable to pull out a victory, falling in 3 games 25-20, 22-25, 25-23. Alyssa Krause led the offensive attack registering 14 kills while Courtney Sanocki recorded a team-high 26 assists. South Elgin was led defensively by Sarah Havermann and Katelyn Stonecipher with 18 digs and 9 digs respectively.

Bartlett d. East Aurora: The Hawks cruised to an easy 25-6, 25-17 Upstate Eight Conference victory at East Aurora. Senior Alyssa Cazzato led the Hawks with 18 assists and 6 aces from the service line. Jacki Gulczynski paced Bartlett's attack with 6 kills.

Burlington Central d. Stillman Valley: The Rockets (5-3) wasted no time Thursday night defeating Stillman Valley in 2 games 25-15, 25-11. Stephanie Holthus (15 kills, 2 aces), Taylor Scully (4 kills), Kaitlyn O'Reilly (18 assists, 5 digs, 2 aces), and Audrey Djukic (4 kills, 4 assists) were Burlington Central's top performers.

Streamwood d. Larkin: The Sabres came out on top defeating Larkin in this tight Upstate Eight Conference battle 25-20, 17-25, 25-17. Melissa Oehlerking recorded 8 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 ace for Streamwood while Marcia Ranahan chipped in 3 kills, 4 aces, and 6 digs.

Rockford Christian d. Westminster Christian: The Warriors (4-4, 0-1) played a marathon at home but fell just short suffering a heartbreaking loss in 3 close games 25-23, 23-25, 35-33. Jessica Benson led with a team-high 10 kills to go along with her 3 digs while Hanna Graves added 18 assists, 5 digs, and 2 blocks. Katie Webster led the defensive charge with 16 digs. Freshman Cara Tyrrell turned in an all-around well played game with 5 aces, 4 digs, 4 kills, and 2 assists.
