Fair housing seminar planned

Prairie State Legal Services and the Pioneer Center will host a seminar from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at 4031 Dayton Street, McHenry, to educate people about unlawful housing discrimination and what can be done about it. The seminar will detail the Fair Housing Act, with special attention devoted to the rights of people with disabilities. Attendees also will learn how to initiate a complaint through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Registration must be made via phone by Aug. 31 at (815) 759-7129.

Stroke, osteoporosis screening planned

The South Elgin Lions Club will host a stroke and osteoporosis screening event beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 15 at 500 Fulton St. in South Elgin. Preregistration is required for all screenings, which take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete. The stroke, vascular disease and heart rhythm screening is $139. Troopers plan crackdown

The Illinois State Police will conduct special patrols today through Sept. 7 to crack down on drunken driving in DuPage, Cook, Kane, Will and McHenry counties. Police say they will use the patrols to find impaired motorists.
