Hanover Park gang forum

The village of Hanover Park and Elgin Area Unit School District 46 will host a gang-awareness forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Laurel Hill Elementary School, 1750 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park. The aim is to help parents spot signs of gang activity in their children. Presentations will be made in English and Spanish. A rash of gang-related activity has occurred in the village, and officials want to help prepare parents as the summer vacation begins. A question-and-answer session is also planned.

Streamwood man arrested:

Bond was set at $7,500 Friday for Joseph C. Besinaiz, 21, of the 0-99 block of Carol Ann Drive, Streamwood, who is accused of trying to set fire to a granite company in the 700 block of Schneider Drive in South Elgin on May 25. There were no injuries and minimal damage from a melted plastic gas container when authorities arrived. Besinaiz admitted to having keys to the business, court documents said. His next court date is Thursday, June 11.

Town hall meetings scheduled

State Rep. Mark Walker, an Arlington Heights Democrat, will hold a series of town hall meetings across his district after the legislative session to answer residents' questions. The meetings are scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, with Village President Arlene Mulder, at Arlington Heights Village Hall 33 S. Arlington Heights Road; 7 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Rolling Meadows Public Library, 3110 Martin Lane; 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Elk Grove Village Hall, Lower Level, 901 Wellington Ave.; 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, outdoors at Cornell Park, Stratford Road and East Drake Lane, Des Plaines; and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Mount Prospect Public Library, Meeting Room B, 10 S. Cubs event at history center

The Des Plaines History Center will feature a free program about the 1907 Chicago Cubs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11. The presentation is part of the History Center's monthly Coffee Talk series and will be held in the Visitor Center, 781 Pearson St. No registration required. The program will be presented by John Peldyak, photo editor for the book, "The Best Game Ever: A Novel of America, Chicago, and the 1907 Cubs." Small aircraft tours offered

Small aircraft tours will be offered for those interested in learning to fly or owning an airplane. Sponsored by Windy City Flyers, the free open houses will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Chicago Executive Airport, 1098 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, and Sunday, June 14, at Schaumburg Regional Airport, 905 W. Irving Park Road. Board new aircraft from Cirrus, Diamond, Piper, Cessna and Beechcraft while manufacturer representatives answer questions about new technologies, amenities and ownership. Youth aviation programs will be on display at both airports, and $35 helicopter rides will be offered at the Wheeling location. Windy City Flyers is a 20-year-old flight school based in Wheeling.
