No one hurt in Crystal Lake school bus fire

No one was hurt in a fire that engulfed a school bus in Crystal Lake Thursday afternoon, firefighters said.

Emergency crews responded to 1079 Waterford Cut about 3 p.m. to find the engine and front of the bus on fire. No one was aboard the vehicle.

The flames quickly shot through the rest of the bus, but firefighters were able to put out the blaze in about five minutes.

"It was more spectacular for the spectators," Crystal Lake Batallion Chief John Lardino said. "The crews did a good job of getting there quickly and getting the fire under control."

The bus was totaled. Investigators were not able to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters did not know why the bus, which is used by Crystal Lake Districts 47 and 155, was parked on Waterford Cut.
