Lake Zurich maintains share of 1st in NSC Lake

Lake Zurich's softball team was not going to allow an upset Thursday.

The Bears scored all of their runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 7-1 win over Mundelein.

The victory kept Lake Zurich (26-5, 8-2) in a first-place tie with Stevenson in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Divisional play concludes next week with Lake Zurich and Stevenson (18-10, 8-2) playing a home-and-home series Monday and Tuesday.

Against Mundelein (4-6 NSC Lake), Lake Zurich got 2 hits apiece from Paige Goldberg (RBI), Amanda Orchard (double, 2 RBI) and Kyra Boyer (RBI). Tabbetha Bohac contributed a 2-run double.

Winning pitcher Megan Mattera (16-4) struck out 10, walked one and allowed 6 hits. The 1 run she allowed was unearned.

Antioch 5, Carmel 2: Ashley Mysliwiec belted a 2-run homer and pitched a complete game for the visiting Sequoits in the nonconference game.

Antioch (25-2) also got a 2-for-3 efforts from Hannah Vandevoorde and Jamie Villalobos. Samie Seamon had a single and 2 RBI.

For Carmel (8-18), Meg Grady was 2-for-3, while Rachel Tack had a 2-run double.

Stevenson 5, Wauconda 2: Nicole Duda belted a solo homer and also doubled for the Patriots in the North Suburban crossover.

Allison Miccuci allowed 1 earned run with 7 strikeouts in earning the win for Stevenson (18-10), and she also doubled. Amanda Jaegers and and Micucci were both 2-for-4, while Duda finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI.

Wauconda fell to 19-7.

Grayslake Central splits with Crystal Lake Central: The Rams won the first game 5-4 and lost the second one 10-3.

Abbie Goetsch homered in Game 1 for the Rams. Grayslake Central got doubles in Game 2 from Kelly Silver, Monika Wedick and Tory Dohm.

Johnsburg 5, Grayslake North 0: Kristi Gandy had 6 strikeouts for the Knights.
