Dinner for retiring Roselle trustee:
A retirement dinner for Roselle Village Trustee Joe Devlin will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 29 at Belvedere Banquets, 1170 W. Devon Ave., Elk Grove Village. The event will honor Devlin's for 40 years of combined service as an elected Roselle official. Reservations required by Friday, May 15. The cost is $30. Athletic director named:
Mark McHorney, an assistant basketball coach and athletic recruiter at Benedictine University since 2005, has been named the Lisle school's new director of athletics. McHorney earned a bachelor's degree in administration and a minor in athletic coaching from Marian College in Fond du Lac, Wis. in 2000, and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Concordia College Chicago in 2004.
Game on:
The West Chicago Police Department plays the girls soccer team from West Chicago Community High School at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 15 at the high school soccer field, located along Wood Street. The first 200 attendees will receive a stress relief soccer ball. Everyone will have a chance to win Chicago Fire tickets, T-shirts, headbands and other gifts. Home Run Inn has donated 200 pizza slices and beverages will be available.
Aurora hydrant flushing:
The Aurora Fire Department has begun its annual fire hydrant testing program, which will continue through June 30. Testing will be done between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon Monday through Thursday. Residents are reminded to check their water for rust before use. If rust is detected, continue to run water until it's clear. If laundry becomes discolored by rust, do not dry the items. Contact the city's customer service center at (630) 264-4636 for information on how to obtain a free bottle of liquid poly, a stain removal treatment.
Spraying for gypsy moth:
Oak Hill Subdivision in Lisle will be sprayed once between Saturday, May 16, and June 6 to control the gypsy moth infestation of oak trees in the neighborhood. The aerial pesticide application will be done by Hendrickson Flying Service of Rochelle. The pesticide being sprayed is Foray 76B, which is harmless to anything except moths and butterflies. People and pets do not have to take any special precautions before or after the application, but might want to stay indoors during the spray. If mist gets on the skin or surfaces of cars or homes, it should be washed off with mild detergent and water. For details, call the Lisle Park District at (630) 353-4381.
