Saturday's Fox Valley roundup
A road trip turned into a home win for the Burlington Central softball team Saturday.
The Rockets arrived at Libertyville for a nonconference doubleheader only to find the Wildcats' field unplayable. Libertyville's sophomore team bus had just left for Burlington Central, so the Rockets loaded the Wildcats' varsity team onto their bus, headed back to Burlington and played one game, which allowed Libertyville to take its own bus back to its school.
Burlington Central (16-3) made quick work of the Wildcats, as senior Mackenzie Scott threw her fourth no-hitter of the season in an 8-0 win, BC's 12th straight triumph. Scott struck out 18 and walked three.
Kayla Oranger, Sam Gruner (2 RBI), Scott (RBI) and Haley Albamonte each had 2 hits for the Rockets, while Lindsay Lange had a double and 2 RBI.
Fremd 2, Bartlett 0: Bartlett (11-11) managed just 2 hits in losing this nonconference game to the Daily Herald's No. 1 ranked team. Callie Dennison (9-8) suffered the loss for the Hawks, allowing just 6 hits. "We played well but came up a little short against a good team," said Bartlett coach Jim Wolfsmith. "We'll turn the corner someday."
Lake Zurich 7, Cary-Grove 1: The Trojans could manage just 4 hits off Lake Zurich's Megan Mattera, who also hit a home run for the Bears (21-5). Lindsey Marshall (5-8) was the losing pitcher for Cary-Grove (12-13). Taylor Dunne and Katie Berg each had doubles for the Trojans.
Hampshire falls twice: Claire Jakubowski had 3 hits and Megan Roadcap doubled but Hampshire fell to Rosary 6-5 in eight innings in the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader. The Whip-Purs (9-13) then fell 9-3 in the second game. Ally Kent suffered the loss in Game 1 for Hampshire and Katelyn Bruscato was the losing pitcher in Game 2. Jakubowski had 3 more hits in the nightcap while Roadcap tripled and Jordan Moore had a double.
