Spring into green today in Millburn
The Millburn United Church of Christ hosts the second Annual Spring into Green event today, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the church at 19073 W. Grass Lake Road. Fremont hires director of special services
The Fremont Elementary District 79 school board has hired Maureen Tedor as director of special services. She starts her new job July 1. Tedor was selected from a pool of about 40 candidates who applied for the position, said Lynette Zimmer, assistant superintendent of educational services. Tedor has master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago and arts in educational leadership from Aurora University. She has served as assistant director of special education in J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 in Cicero. Before that she served as special education coordinator in Valley View Public School District 365U in Romeoville.
Driver services in Wauconda:
Secretary of State Jesse White's Mobile Driver Services Unit will be in Wauconda Township on Friday, May 15, at 505 W. Bonner Road. Illinois residents can renew driver's licenses, obtain a corrected license, duplicate license or state ID. The vision-screening exam required to get a driver's license will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A rules of the road review course will be from 10 to 11 a.m., including state driving laws, safe driving techniques and a practice written exam. Two forms of identification are required for a duplicate or corrected driver's license or state ID. For more information, call (217) 782-7044.
Sports equipment sought:
The Sports Shed, a nonprofit organization in Vernon Hills, is looking for donations to help kids who have the desire to play sports but no resources to buy what they need to get in the game. The group collects new and gently used sports equipment, which is given to organizations such as The Girls in the Game, Mercy Home for Boys, and Horizons for Youth. Soccer balls, shin guards, basketballs, baseballs and softballs, aluminum and wooden bats, mitts, footballs, tennis rackets and balls, volleyballs, knee pads, hockey sticks, skates or pads and new swim suits, goggles and caps are among the items being sought.
