Fox Valley softball roundup
Larkin Slugfest: The annual Larkin Slugfest met with nasty weather Saturday. Rain halted the opening round after the three games had just started. When play resumed, Larkin (4-10) lost to Chatham-Glenwood 10-0, top seed and defending Class 4A state champion Lincoln-Way Central beat Hersey 3-0 and Queen of Peace downed Palatine 4-0. Oak Lawn and Plainfield Central opted to call it a day and go home before their first-round game could be played. Lincoln-Way Central led Chatham Glenwood 2-0 in the third inning and no other second round game was able to get started before the tournament was washed out. It will not be rescheduled.
Elgin 3, Lake Park 2, susp.: The Maroons led 3-2 over Lake Park in the top of the fifth inning before the game was called due to rain. Elgin collected 5 hits while Lake Park posted 3 with 2 errors. The game will be made up Thursday after the scheduled game between the Maroons and Lancers is played in Elgin.
Huntley 5, Rosary 0, susp.: The Red Raiders traveled to Rosary where 3 innings were completed before the game was called due to rain in the top of the fourth.
Indian Creek 10, St. Edward 4: The Green Wave fell short to Indian Creek in Game 1 of Saturday's nonconference doubleheader. St. Edward bounced back in game two leading 2-1 in the third inning before the game was quickly cut short due to rain. Stephanie Werner had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Green Wave (11-7) in the opener. Madeline Foehringer suffered the loss in the circle.
IMSA takes two from Westminster: IMSA challenged the Warriors (3-7) in two quick four inning games, defeating Westminster 15-0, 14-0.
South Elgin sweeps: South Elgin (10-7) swept a nonconference doubleheader from Prairie Ridgem winning 10-1 and 14-8. Diana Besser pitched all 7 innings in the circle inn Game 1, striking out two with no walks. Lauren Vitiello and Kim Pierce each went 3-for-4 with a double while teammate Kiersa Parillo was 2-for-4 with a double. In Game 2, Vitiello and Brittany Boelter each doubled and Pierce had a home run and a double for the Storm. Cary Thereon was the winning pitcher.
CL South 6, Johnsburg 3: Kaitlin Hardie had a triple to help lead the Gators (14-3) to a Fox Valley Conference crossover win.
Hampshire wins two: In game one Hampshire defeated Rockford Auburn 8-7. Grace Jakubowski led at the plate with 2 doubles. Teammates Megan Roadcap and Brie Doyle each contributed hitting a double as the Whip-Purs combined for 12 hits. Ally Kent (3-4) was in the ring pitching 4 innings while striking out six with 3 walks for the win. In game two Hampshire rolled to a 20-0 win over Rockford Christian Life. Kent (4-4) pitched a 5-inning no-hitter with 8 strikeouts. Combining for 16 hits Hampshire was led by Tiffany Bentley, who hit a home run. Roadcap added a triple with 2 doubles while Jordan Moore also contributed a double.
