St. Edward 13, Indian Creek 3: Jon Godfrey enjoyed a remarkable day at the plate for the Green Wave (11-9) in a nonconference game in Elgin. Godfrey went 3-for-3 with 2 grand slam home runs and a double to finish with 9 RBI. Pitcher T.J. Madzy earned his first victory of the season after limiting Indian Creek to 2 earned runs in 5 innings.
Reed-Custer 14, Hampshire 12: Hampshire scored 4 runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, but the comeback bid fell short at a tournament held at Driscoll Catholic in Addison. Ryan Burke went 4-for-5 with a home run and a double, James Goebbert homered and drove in 2 runs and Joe Moore went 1-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI for Hampshire (12-8).
"We outhit them, but our pitchers gave up 9 walks," Whip-Purs coach Steve Reams said.
Westminster Christian splits: Pitcher Brandon Siewert improved to 4-1 this season by striking out two without a walk in lifting the Warriors (12-7, 4-3) to a 9-4 victory over Chicago Christian in Game 1. Joe McGannon homered and Steve Berglund, Ryan Perez and Andrew Mason each doubled.
However, the Warriors committed 5 errors in a 12-11 loss in the nightcap. Westminster led 11-7 but allowed 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after a rain delay.
"The first game was one of our best all year, but the second game was sad," Warriors coach Jeff Moeller said. "We make a couple routine plays and we walk out of there with a W."
Bartlett 14, South Elgin 4: Bartlett snapped the Storm's four-game winning streak with a lopsided Upstate Eight Conference home victory in five innings. Alex Van Ness and Ryan Yore each went 2-for-2 and drove in a run, Devin Rowland finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 steals and junior Mike Mancuso hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Streamwood splits: The Sabres overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first game of an Upstate Eight Conference doubleheader at Waubonsie Valley with an 8-run outburst in the third inning to win 8-6. Matt Korntved went 4-for-5 with 1 RBI, Brian Brauer was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, and Brian Domokos held the Warriors pitched 5 innings to pick up the victory. Brauer went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair in Game 2, but Waubonsie Valley scored 8 runs in the last four innings to win 13-6 and gain the split.
McHenry 4, Crystal Lake South 3: The Gators lost the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opener in the bottom of the seventh, when Nick Brennan drove home Ryan Clark with a walk-off single. Pitcher Tim Ambrose (3-1) was relieved in the seventh but took the loss for the Gators (12-7, 0-1).
Woodstock 11, Dundee-Crown 10: The Chargers rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell just short in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opener. Brendon Schumacher and Kirk Hanselmann homered for Dundee-Crown (3-12, 0-1).
Huntley game suspended: Huntley (13-3-1) amassed 16 hits and led Grayslake North 13-0 in the bottom of the third inning, when this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division opener was suspended due to rain.
College baseball
Judson sweeps: The Eagles completed a three-game sweep of Trinity International with 11-1 and 14-0 victories to move within three games of first-place St. Xavier in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bret Ehrlich went 6-for-6 with 6 RBI in the doubleheader and Ed Draper and Heath Groves each earned wins on the mound for Judson University (24-19, 17-8).
