Thursday's Fox Valley roundup
Sophomore Kara Arceneaux scattered 6 hits, struck out five and didn't walk anyone as the Jacobs softball team opened defense of its Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship with a 5-0 win over Cary-Grove Thursday.
Arceneaux and Kesley Peterson each went 2-for-3 with doubles for the Golden Eagles (7-5, 1-0) and Cassy Bencal added a double.
Marengo 8, Hampshire 0: Hampshire managed just 2 hits in this Big Northern East loss. Ally Kent was the losing pitcher for the Whip-Purs (4-9, 1-3).
CL South 5, McHenry 1: Emily Mahoney allowed just 4 hits and Megan Hardie went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as CL South (12-3) opened the FVC Valley Division season with a win. Jessica Hausl (RBI) and Sam Golf each had 2 hits for the Gators.
Burlington Central 12, Harvard 0: Lindsay Lange had 2 doubles and an RBI and Mackenzie Scott had a double and 2 RBI as Burlington (10-3, 2-0) won its sixth straight game. Brittany Priest had 2 hits, 3 runs scored and an RBI for the Rockets while Ashley Scheffler added 2 hits, Sam Gruner had an RBI and Kayla Oranger scored twice and had 2 stolen bases. Scott and Jet Kein combined to allow just 1 hit. They struck out 14 of the 16 Harvard batters they faced.
Huntley 6, Grayslake North 1: Sam Clemons (10-5) allowed just 2 hits as Huntley (11-7) opened the FVC Fox season with a win. Clemons struck out 10. Jenna Mychko (4-for-4, HR), Clemons (3-for-4, 2 doubles, RBI), Sarah Clancy (2-for-3) and Kelsey Hagen (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) led the Red Raiders' offense.
Neuqua Valley 4, Elgin 0: The Maroons (5-13, 3-3) played well against a tough Neuqua Valley team but could manage just 4 hits. Kelly Patchett suffered the loss for Elgin.
