Suspicious vehicle sought
Mount Prospect police are seeking information from anyone who might have information on an incident around 4 p.m. one day last week where two people in a blue, four-door car approached a student near Corktree and Columbine lanes and asked him if he wanted candy, River Trails Elementary District 26 officials said in a letter to parents. The student ran from the car and was not harmed. Both people are believed to be between 16 and 17 years old and the passenger wore a red baseball cap. Dist. 220 names new leaders
Barrington Unit District 220 has made several changes in top administrative positions, including the naming of two new elementary school principals and a new dean of students for Barrington High School. The changes will go into effect for the 2009-10 school year. Diane Wood will be the next principal of North Barrington Elementary, replacing Deborah Cross, who's retiring. Wood is now assistant principal at Olive-Mary Stitt Elementary School in Arlington Heights. Irma Bates will become principal of Sunny Hill Elementary in Carpentersville. Bates replaces Louise Robb, who's been named assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Bates is currently principal of Ridge Circle Elementary School in Streamwood and previously held teaching and administrative positions in District 220. Becky Gill, principal of Hough Street School in Barrington, will also move to a district-level position as director of curriculum and instruction. Her replacement at Hough has not yet been chosen. Austin Johnson, a teacher on special assignment at Barrington High and the district's safety coordinator, will take over as the high school dean of students.
Little League kickoff rally
The community is invited to attend the Hanover Park Little League's Opening Night Celebration for its 43rd year, which takes place at 6 p.m. today at the ball fields on Barrington Road just south of Irving Park Road. Local officials and past league leaders will be on hand for an introduction of all baseball and softball teams, a Boy Scout flag presentation and kickoff of the season. Annual bicycle swap Saturday
The 28th annual Arlington Bike Swap is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at Centennial Park, 1209 Burr Oak Drive, adjacent to Riley School. The Arlington Heights Bicycle Club runs the event like a garage sale; people sell or purchase bicycles and bicycle related items. Sellers set their own prices. Items are accepted for sale between 7:30 a.m. and noon. Purchases can be made between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fees are 10 percent of any sales. Items not sold are returned without charge, but must be picked up by 6 p.m. Bikes and equipment must be in good condition. There is a $10 minimum price for all items. All transaction are cash. Sellers and buyers must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
Concert to benefit Buehler
A fundraiser for the Palatine Buehler YMCA Strong Kids Campaign takes place 6:45 to 9:45 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St. Last year, the Strong Kids fund donated more than $250,000 through membership and programs. The band Bucket Number 6 will play.
