Doll lifts Mundelein to first win over Hersey
Finally.
Mundelein's softball team picked up its first win of the season and did so convincingly Saturday.
Justina Doll went 3-for-4 at the plate, including 2 doubles and a triple, to lead the Mustangs to a 15-0 win over Hersey in Arlington Heights.
Mundelein (1-7) also got 2 hits and a solo home run out of Melissa Diaz.
Meanwhile, winning pitcher Deanna Wise allowed just 2 hits.
Vernon Hills sweeps: Vernon Hills got a pair of nonconference victories in defeating Schaumburg, 6-1, 5-2.
In the first game, pitcher Charlotte Hoffmann rolled up 5 strikeouts and allowed just 1 walk while Sara Doerhoefer finished with 2 hits.
In the finale, Doerhoefer tallied 3 hits and Megan Kubacki added 2 hits for the Cougars, who improved to 6-3 on the season.
Lake Zurich splits: After dropping a 3-2 decision to Conant, the Bears stormed back and rolled to a 13-1 victory in the finale.
In the win, Kelli Blume led the way offensively with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate that included 5 RBI.
Erin Sweeney and Tabbetha Bohac added 3 hits apiece while Coryn Schmit had 2 hits. Bohac also pitched the game and moved her record to 4-1 by striking out 4 and not allowing a walk.
In the loss, Bohac and Paige Goldbery each had 2 hits.
Stevenson gets swept: Stevenson dropped both games of a doubleheader to Palatine, 4-2, 8-1.
In the first game, Allison Micucci had 2 hits, including a double, and Amanda Jaegers also added 2 hits for the Patriots (5-6).
In the second game, Genny Duffy drilled a triple.
