Carmel, Stevenson win at Lake Forest
A pair of undefeated girls soccer teams, Carmel and Stevenson, won opening-round matches in the Lake Forest Snowbowl tournament Thursday.
Carmel needed shootout kicks to get past stingy Crystal Lake South 3-2.
Kassidy Brown, Alex Hauser and Lauren Lehman each picked up goals.
Carmel coach John Halloran earned his 101st win after hitting the century mark against Fenwick on Tuesday.
"The kids did all the work. It's the testament to the whole staff, school and players for the last six years." said Halloran, whose team is 8-0. "I don't think we brought our top level game (Thursday). We had a couple miscues in the back.
"We've had our intensity drop off over the last game or two. If you don't bring the intensity every game, you'll get nipped."
Stevenson (3-0-3, 1-0) kept its unbeaten string intact and extended it to six with a 3-0 shutout over Mother McAuley (1-5, 0-1)
Patriots keeper Courtney Levy still hasn't allowed a goal and earned her sixth shutout by making 2 stops.
"We've got 22 players committed to defense," Stevenson coach Mark Schartner said. "Everybody was working hard to make things happen."
Stevenson's Nicole Sodomire scored 2 goals and assisted on the other. Jackie Wynn had a goal and an assist.
Lakes (4-3, 0-1) lost the opener to Prairie Ridge 1-0. The Wolves (5-1, 1-0) tallied their goal in the final minutes from Becca Reitz.
