Irvin, Cain and Edmier for DuPage High School Dist. 88

The DuPage High School District 88 will continue to oversee a $115.3 million construction program that will bring two high schools up-to-date, expanding facilities and improving opportunities for the district's students.

Consistency is valuable because of this project, which is scheduled to be complete in 2010.

Luckily, the two incumbents competing in the field of five candidates for three seats are smart and dedicated public servants. Addison resident Jay Irvin's construction background and dedication are especially valuable to the Building the Future project. Donna Cain, of Lombard, brings the perspective of a Willowbrook High School parent and a lawyer. We like her enthusiasm for creating a foundation that would raise money for District 88 and its feeder districts.

The other three candidates each have strengths and weaknesses.

Fred Nosal, coach of the Addison Cowboys youth football, says he is mostly familiar with issues because he has watched meetings on cable TV.

Willowbrook Warriors Youth Football founder Troy Clampit of Villa Park thought this would be a way to give back to the community, but lacks a specific focus or ideas to make his mark on the district.

Addison resident Tom Edmier is earnest and seems committed to wanting to do a good job. He attends meetings and is bringing himself up to speed on the issues.

We give Edmier a slight edge for his advance commitment to learning the issues and meeting the players.

Irvin, Cain and Edmier are endorsed.
