Gallichio, three newcomers endorsed in District 38
Big Hollow Elementary District 38 voters have many choices with seven candidates for four, 4-year terms. Current members Jan Carsella and Todd Wright are not seeking re-election, guaranteeing new blood. Incumbent Victoria Gallichio is knowledgeable and experienced. She wants to push the district to be "green" and be more eco-friendly. Gallichio earns our endorsement. Three newcomers are endorsed. Joe Bridge, a budding teacher, offers ideas for improving communications and full-day kindergarten. Julia Mazur is active in the PTO and stresses engaging community stakeholders to serve on special committees. All urge financial responsibility and improving student performance. For the final spot, newcomers James Jochheim, Heather Janquart and Margaret Mallahan bring a variety of views to the campaign. We give a slight nod to Jochheim whose ideas include potentially leasing the Route 12 buildings if they can't be sold and allowing high school students considering teaching careers to help in District 38 classrooms. One-term incumbent James DeVito offered few concrete ideas about issues facing the district.
