No letdown for Dundee-Crown
There was no letdown from Dundee-Crown on Wednesday.
On the heels of a stirring victory at Jacobs last Friday, the Chargers maintained their grip on sole possession of first place in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference with a 68-58 victory at Woodstock. It was the sixth straight win for Dundee-Crown (15-4, 6-0).
"Coming off an emotional game against your big riva I thought our guys did fairly well," D-C coach Lance Huber said. "It was not perfect by any means, but we accomplished what we hoped to accomplish and we'll tackle our next game on Friday night (vs. Waubonsie Valley)."
D-C led by 18 points with 1:48 remaining, but Woodstock (5-18, 1-5) made a late push to cut the final margin to 10. The Chargers led 19-8 after a quarter, 35-22 at halftime and 49-39 after three periods.
Senior guard Jeff Beck led all scorers with 25 points, 7 from the free-throw line. Senior guard Justin Strzelczyk added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and senior Marcus Henry contributed 9 points.
"It was just a solid game and some other guys stepped up," Huber said. "Justin had a nice game and Greg McNally came off the bench and guarded almost everyone on their team. He was very efficient and versatile for us."
Huntley 52, Grayslake North 25: The host Red Raiders snapped a 2-game losing streak and improved to 13-9 overall, 3-3 in the Fox Division of the FVC with a dominant defensive performance against the Knights (7-14, 0-6). Huntley led 13-5 after one quarter and held Grayslake North to a lone basket in the second quarter to take a 22-7 halftime lead.
"It was a very good game on both ends of the floor," Huntley coach Marty Manning said. "Zach Petit also played a great defensive game for us."
Senior guard Zac Boster sank four 3-pointers to lead the Red Raiders with 14 points. Senior Jordan Neukirch added 9 points and sophomore Tyler Brunschon had 7 points for Huntley.
McHenry 71, Crystal Lake South 57: The visiting Warriors saddled CL South (12-11, 2-4) with its fifth loss in 7 games in a Valley Division tilt in Crystal Lake. The victory gave McHenry (10-10, 3-3) sole possession of third place.
Elgin Academy 60, Latin 50: The Hilltoppers snagged their second Independent School League victory of the season with this victory on Elgin's east side.
