Rosemont challenges dropped

Challenges were dropped Monday to the nominating petitions of acting Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens, who is running for village president, and incumbent trustees Sharon Pappas, and Ralph DiMatteo running for re-election, as well as trustee candidate Roger Minale, and clerk candidate Debbie Drehobl during the electoral board hearing.

Clerk robbed in Schaumburg

A police dog unsuccessfully tracked a man who robbed the clerk at a store on the 900 block of West Bode Road, Schaumburg. The male clerk gave the robber approximately $50 out of the cash drawer around 1:45 a.m. Thursday and he fled into an apartment complex south of the business, reports said. The robber was described as 18-22 years old, 5 feet 10 to 5 feet 11 inches tall, slim build, dark hair and wearing a black knit cap, black T-shirt, light gray Cubs hoodie sweatshirt, light-colored jeans and tan work boots.

Free dental care

The Diabetes Support Group will host Harper College dental hygiene students for an informational session on dental hygiene and care from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway. The event is open to the public.

Police union soliciting funds

Des Plaines police Chief Jim Prandini said no city police officer solicits money over the telephone, and officers do not pick up donations from homes or businesses. Representatives of the Metropolitan Alliance of Police, the union representing patrol officers and sergeants for collective bargaining purposes, are making solicitations, but they are for union actiivities, not the police department, he said. Each fall, the Des Plaines Police Association conducts a mailing to previous contributors seeking donations for a variety of civic groups in conjunction with its annual dinner-dance event, he added.

School committees recruiting

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 is seeking community members interested in serving on its District Citizens' Advisory Committee or Budget Review Committee. The advisory committee meets at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month from September to May and provides input to the school board on district topics. The budget committee requires members to meet up to six times at 6 p.m. Thursdays from January to June and participate in discussions on school finance.
