Torres to hold open sessions

U-46 Superintendent Jose Torres is conducting daytime and evening open sessions to meet with community members. Every other month, Torres will hold a "brown bag lunch" for community members from noon to 1 p.m. at district headquarters, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The evening sessions, also every other month, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Elgin High School library, preceding the monthly Citizens' Advisory Council meeting. The next brown bag lunch sessions are Thursday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, April 16. The next evening sessions are Thursday, Feb 12 and Thursday, May 7.

Register for spring programs

Residents of the Fox Valley Park District can register for spring programs and events beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Nonresident registration will begin Monday, Feb. 23. The park district is offering hundreds of programs and activities for youth and adults this spring, ranging from swimming lessons to dance classes and sports training. Registration can be completed by Foxlink Internet and touch-tone, by mail or drop off, and in person during business hours at the Prisco Community Center, the Eola Community Center and the Vaughan Athletic Center. Conifers seminar

A seminar on conifers will be held this month in Campton Hills to raise money for a local animal shelter. Captivating Conifers in the Midwest is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Wasco Nursery & Garden Center, 41W781 Route 64. The presentation features Alan Craig, a representative of Oregon-based Iseli Nursery, who will discuss care and presentation of various conifers. The Elgin Choral Union is looking for people to serve on its board of directors for a three-year term. For 62 years, the union has performed for a growing audience and hopes to become the premier community chorus in the Midwest. Soccer team coming to Lisle

The Chicago Red Eleven, a developmental league affiliate of the Chicago Red Stars of the Women's Professional Soccer league, has announced it will play its 2009 home games at the village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex at 5700 College Road. The team features college-age players from throughout the Chicago area. It played as the Chicago Gaels during its 2008 season.
