To take the first leap onto the road to stardom, the Fox Valley can be a great place to step off. The following auditions have been set.
Wheaton Drama: Wheaton Drama Inc., 111 N. Hale St. in downtown Wheaton, will hold auditions for its upcoming production of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning drama, "A Streetcar Named Desire."This classic drama centers on the descent of Blanche du Bois as she struggles with a faded past and a cruel and harsh present. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1 and Monday, Feb. 2 at Wheaton Drama's Playhouse 111. Callbacks (if necessary) will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script or monologue (2-minute maximum) - actor choice - or both, if time permits. No roles have been pre-cast. There are roles for six men (including a teenage male) and six women, plus additional nonspeaking roles. Additional information is available at www.wheatondrama.org. Performances are April 3-26 (no performance on Easter). Shows are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays.
Remaining shows in Wheaton Drama's 2008-2009 season are "Deathtrap," playing Jan. 30 to Feb. 22, and the season finale, "City of Angels", playing June 5-28.

Steel Beam: Steel Beam Theatre will hold auditions for children, age 9 to 16, for their upcoming production of "Thumbelina," directed by Daina Giesler, from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at the theater, 111 W. Main St. in downtown St. Charles. Children will be seen on a first-come basis, no preparation is needed. "Thumbelina" will rehearse on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, with 16 total performances on Saturdays, April 4 through May 9. A cast of approximately 24 will be selected. This is a tuition based program ($250), with scholarships available to families in need. Steel Beam: Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W. Main St. in downtown St. Charles, announces auditions for David Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 and Wednesday, Feb. 25. Callbacks if necessary will be Thursday, Feb. 26. Aaron Thomann directs and will have readings from the script. No appointments are taken. There are paid positions.
