Cougars outlast Saxons in 3 OTs
In the longest Mid-Suburban League girls basketball game of the season, Conant outlasted host Schaumburg 54-53 in three overtimes Friday night.
Senior guard Emma Loos led the Cougars (14-7, 3-3) with a game-high 20 points and also collected 4 rebounds.
"Emma and the whole team stepped up," said Cougars coach Dan Travers. "This was a very good high school varsity girls game. Both teams played very hard."
Junior guard Ashley Lindeman added 13 points for the Cougars, who won their third straight and also received 9 points and 5 rebounds by senior guard Lauren Jason.
"We just never quit," Travers added. "Schaumburg, though, played hard, too. You've got to give them credit."
Cougars guard Marissa Ross (6 points) had a pair of 3-pointers, including one in overtime.
Coming off a 30-point performance against Marist, senior forward Sarah Kellermeyer scored a game-high 21 points for Schaumburg while her front line partner and classmate Sarah McGinn added 15.
Junior point guard Taylor Kosla scored 9 and Rachael Kahan 6 for the Saxons (6-16, 1-5).
Hoffman 53, Palatine 35: Hoffman Estates (18-2, 5-1) remained in a first-place tie with Fremd in the MSL West as senior Megan Fischer (24 points, 8 rebounds) led the host Hawks, who also received 8 points from senior Alex Wulbecker.
Other key contributors for the Hawks were Megan Bernardoni (6 rebounds, 3 points,), Carol King (4 rebounds, 4 points), Megan Evans (4 rebounds, 3 points) and Jada Stotts (6 points.)
Palatine (3-19, 0-6) was led by junior guard Heather Zimmerman (12 points) and sophomore forward Alexis Bauer (10).
Prospect 49, Rolling Meadows 30: Sophomore Marissa Pettenuzzo (10 points), senior Alyssa Glennon (10), sophomore Sarah Winans (9) and junior Alyssa Baker (8) led Prospect (16-5, 5-1) in the MSL East while Meadows (6-14, 0-6) received 8 points apiece from senior Maddy Urban and junior Kelly Adair.
