DuPage County briefs

Warrenville trial to begin

A former Aurora man goes on trial today on charges he opened fire during an argument at a party in Warrenville. Ignacio C. Rosario is charged with attempted murder and various weapons violations. Three people, including the defendant's sister, were injured about 3 a.m. Oct. 6, 2007, near Prairie Avenue and Patterman Road. They survived their injuries. DuPage Circuit Judge Blanche Hill Fawell will preside over the trial. The jury was selected Tuesday.

Dugan trial delayed

The final chapter in one of DuPage County's most haunting crimes won't be written for another eight months. The trial of Brian J. Dugan in the Feb. 25, 1983, abduction, rape and murder of Jeanine Nicarico, 10, of Naperville was supposed to begin Tuesday, but a judge granted the delay late last year at the defense's request. Jury selection will begin Sept. 22. Dugan, 53, formerly of Aurora, is serving life prison terms for two later sex slayings. He long ago offered to plead guilty, but only if his own life is spared - a deal prosecutors have refused.

New Dist. 88 CFO

The DuPage High School District 88 school board voted this month to appoint Bruce Martin as the new chief financial officer, effective with the 2009-10 school year. He begins his duties July 1, replacing Assistant Superintendent for Operations Michael Welch. Welch will retire after seven years in the position and 30 years in education. Martin brings more than 17 years experience to District 88, having served previously as business manager for the Lockport Area Special Education Cooperative and Golf School District 67 in Morton Grove. Currently, he is the business manager for Community Consolidated School District 64, serving elementary students in Park Ridge and Niles.
