DuPage County briefs

Trial set for former Bears QB:

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Bob Avellini is facing a May 6 trial date for a drunken-driving arrest, his fourth in recent years. The 55-year-old Roselle man is accused of being behind the wheel while intoxicated June 15, 2007, in Wheaton. He pleaded not guilty. Avellini pleaded guilty to a 2002 DUI, but beat two later arrests in Wood Dale and Roselle in court for lack of evidence. DuPage Associate Judge Robert Kleeman will preside over the spring trial.

O'Hare battle wages on

Lawyers appeared Wednesday before DuPage Circuit Judge Kenneth Popejoy as they try to resolve issues raised in a recent Illinois appellate court decision affecting the razing of hundreds of Bensenville properties in the path of a proposed O'Hare runway. Justices reversed Popejoy's decision on Aug. 7 lifting his ban on the teardowns. Bensenville argues the demolition will be hazardous to public health. Chicago officials disagree and argue the constant court delays are costing the city time and money. They are back before the judge Feb. 11.

Hotel partnership announced

The Woodfield Chicago Northwest Convention Bureau has established a new marketing partnership with the Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca, which could become a model for other such hotel partnerships within the bureau's jurisdiction. Bureau President Fran Bolson said the partnership represents a step forward in the promotion of the hospitality industry, which plays an important role in the economy of the Northwest suburbs. Further partnerships may be established individually based on bureau resources, Bolson said. The Westin Chicago Northwest recently completed a renovation that included environmentally friendly directives.
