Briefs: Cancer center vote delayed

The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board postponed a vote on a proposed traditional cancer treatment center to be built adjacent to Central DuPage Hospital's proton therapy cancer treatment center in Warrenville. A group of doctors opposing the project submitted a list of questions about the project to the board ahead of the meeting Wednesday in Chicago. The state regulatory board said the questions needed to be answered before deliberations could begin. The issue could come up at the board's December meeting, officials said.

Glen Ellyn school to host dedication

Churchill Elementary School invites community members to a dedication ceremony for the Sue Hodkinson Outdoor Reading Room from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the school, 240 Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn. Hodkinson was a longtime teacher at Churchill who died in July 2006. Her wish was to leave behind an inviting, special place at Churchill for students, staff and parents. Hodkinson's students, colleagues and friends from throughout the community contributed to create the landscaped area for outdoor reading, learning and remembering.

District 44 preschool screening

Lombard Elementary District 44 will be conducting a preschool screening to identify students who may be eligible for either the prekindergarten at-risk program or early childhood special education. Children identified through the screening as experiencing difficulty in the areas of cognitive development, speech and language skills, social emotional development, gross and fine motor skills or vision and hearing may be referred for further evaluation. The fall screening will be held Friday, Nov. 7, at Madison School, 150 W. Madison St., Lombard, and will take about one hour.
