Big 2nd half leads Westminster past Hampshire
Knotted at 0-0 at the half, the Westminster Christian offense exploded for four late goals to beat Hampshire 4-0 in nonconference boys soccer action Saturday.
Josh Beachler led the attack with a pair of goals, while Ryan Beachler and Steven Hoeflich each added single knocks. Ryan Beachler posted 2 assists with additional passes from Brady Huddleston and Ben Carani.
In goal for the Warriors (8-6-1), Scott Saturik tallied 8 saves to preserve the shutout.
Hampshire is now 6-7-1 for the season.
Stillman Valley 4, Burlington Central 2: Despite a pair of goals from Ryan Warner, Burlington Cental (6-9-1) dropped this nonconference match to Stillman Valley. Steven Hall connected with Warner for his first goal, and Warner later scored on a penalty kick. Kyle DeRaedt was in goal for the Rockets recording 11 saves.
Huntley 5, Belvidere 1: Huntley (6-4-2) took an early 3-0 lead in this nonconference meeting behind 2 goals from Jesus Alejos and never looked back. Nico Carbonara scored a hat trick to close things out for the Red Raiders, while teammate Kyle Lewandowski assisted on 3 goals. Ignacio Solorzano added an assist. Defending the Red Raider net, Kevin Montelongo collected 4 saves.
At Jacobs Tournament: Hosting the Jacobs Tournament, the Golden Eagles opened Day 2 action with a tough 1-0 loss to Harvard with Danny Trevor in goal recording 3 saves. After a Hoffman Estates forfeit, Jacobs (7-6-4) completed tournament action 1-2. Hoffman Estates went on to lose to West Chicago 2-1 in the championship contest.
Also competing at Jacobs, Dundee-Crown kicked off the day with a 4-0 loss to West Chicago. Eddie Fuentes handled goalkeeper duties racking up 5 saves. The Chargers (8-11) went on to defeat the Jacobs JV team 2-0 behind goals from Orlando Ceja and Jose Batres (Tom Hanley assist) before falling 2-1 to Harvard in the third-place matchup. Josh Cook was in goal for both games combining 5 saves. Tony Meza scored unassisted in the loss to Harvard.
St. Edward 7, Elgin Academy 2: Miguel Martinez racked up a hat trick to lead the Green Wave (5-10-2) to this nonconference victory. Ryan Frank also scored a pair of goals assisted by David Smith and Logan Johnson. Alex Ptak and Clayton Pfeiffer were able to find the back of the net to keep the Green Wave ahead. Jim Cholewa managed to collect an assist as well as 2 saves while in the net during the second half. John Duggan also had 2 saves in goal for St. Edward.
