South Elgin wins 2 in tourney
Going 2-3 at the Waubonsie Valley Warrior Blast girls volleyball tournament Saturday, South Elgin (3-13) saw big game performances from Hayley Bradley who led the Storm with 28 kills, 10 aces and 18 digs. Also contributing were Alyssa Krause (22 kills, 8 aces, 4 digs), Christie Cortese (20 kills, 5 aces, 15 digs), Kelly Reilly (10 kills, 10 digs), Tara Bradley (16 aces, 19 digs) and Genevieve Johnson (6 aces, 35 digs).
South Elgin opened Pool Play with wins over Oswego (25-10, 18-25, 25-16) and Yorkville (25-20, 15-15, 25-11) before dropping three straight to Batavia (25-20, 25-15), Downers Grove North (25-21, 25-16) and Glenbard North (25-23, 25-21).
Westminster d. Elgin Academy: Jessica Benson led the Warriors to victory over Elgin Academy posting 6 aces, 4 blocks, 10 digs and 9 kills in this nonconference match-up winning by scores of 25-13, 25-14. Hannah Graves (12 assists, 3 aces, 3 kills) and Katie Webster (7 digs, 3 aces) contributed. Sarah Rodgers was successful at the net with 6 kills, 2 digs and 1 ace as the Warriors improve their record to 6-10.
Dundee-Crown takes 3rd place: At the Harlem Invite the Chargers (11-5) were able to take third place going 4-1 throughout the tournament. Dundee-Crown picked up their first victory after a Walter Payton forfeit. D-C's next challenger was Keith School who the Chargers went on to defeat 25-15, 25-14. Dundee-Crown also defeated both Harlem 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 and Rolling Meadows 19-25, 25-13, 25-21. Stephanie Thorson managed to lead the way for DC putting away 34 kills and gaining all- tournament team honors. Dundee-Crown's only loss came from Woodstock who won in a close match 25-18, 27-26 Alyssa Sarrazine also played a large role at the net pounding down 21 kills while teammate Katie Cutinello recorded 86 assists. Lindsay Mosher also was successful recording 57 digs for the Chargers.
