St. Alphonsus Liguori Church and School will be holding its annual Family Fall Fest and Craft Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The fest will feature contests and carnival games with prizes, a moonwalk, a haunted house, face painting, a cake walk, raffles, live entertainment and more. This event will be held rain or shine. A craft fair will house more than 50 booths. Food and beverages are available all day. Fest favorites will be available for purchase: cider, hot dogs, pizza, popcorn and more. Admission to the fest is free for adults and toddlers, and wristbands are available for $10 for visitors ages 3 to 17 and includes all contests and all but two of the attractions. Immanuel United Church of Christ, Bartlett is having its first Harvest Festival featuring Fay's Pork Chop Bar-B-Q, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The Greater Woodfield Area CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19. CROP now stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. There will be a 10K, 5K or a Golden Mile walk against hunger this year. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour's United Methodist Church, 701 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised will go to local PADS sites like Prince of Peace in Hoffman Estates and to the Kenneth Young Senior Center in Elk Grove to assist those who cannot afford the Meals on Wheels program. The remainder of the funds will go toward helping with many needs around the world. The Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk Committee announces that Kirk Murdock and David Kelsch have been named Grand Marshals for the 26th anniversary of this event that raises funds for people in need. • Services for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29; at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30; and at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 Children's services will begin at approximately 10:30 Tuesday morning, Sept. 30.

The Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates Clergy Association will join its diverse congregations, ministries and organizations to collect food for local food pantries. Through Sunday, Oct. 5, many of the organization's partners will collect items that will be distributed to pantries and to seven District 54 schools as part of the "Before School Breakfast Program." SHECA has been in the community for more than 30 years and members include Protestant, Catholic and Jewish clergy plus leaders from the Muslim faith.

Shabbat worship services are offered at 7:30 p.m. Fridays (Kabbalat Shabbat) and at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Congregation Beth Judea, Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove. Everyone is welcome to bring their pets to the second annual "Blessing of the Animals" outdoor interfaith service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at North Northfield United Methodist Church at Dundee and Sanders in Northbrook. All animals are welcome, but participants are asked to keep their pets on a leash, or in a cage, bowl or carrier. Water dishes will be available.
In addition, Northbrook's Heartland Animal Shelter will bring a few of their well-behaved pets that are in need of adoption to the event. Please consider bringing one or more of the following to the event for donation to the nonprofit "no-kill" shelter: paper towels, clay cat litter, canned kitten food, king toys or fleece. Lutheran Church of Martha and Mary, 606 W. Golf Road, Mount Prospect, will celebrate the Day of St. Francis at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, by bringing its annual Pet Blessing service indoors, and inviting members, friends, and the community to bring their pets and join for worship. Friendly and well-behaved animals will be welcomed. Dogs will need to be on leashes, and be willing to sit (relatively) calmly with their owners in the pews. All other animals should be in carriers. Animals who are too large or excitable to come to church may be represented by a photograph. Worshippers who would prefer not to sit with animals may be seated in a separate area of the sanctuary. The September event for the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Elk Grove Village, will highlight the church's musical heritage in a Vespers Hymn Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. Christopher Loemker, prominent contributor to Lutheran Church music, will be guest organist. The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is at 150 Lions Drive in Elk Grove Village.
St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive St., Arlington Heights, is changing the format and location of the Monday night worship service. This will be a traditional service in the sanctuary and Communion will be celebrated on the first and third weekend of the month.
