The Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk Committee announces that Kirk Murdock and David Kelsch have been named Grand Marshals for the 26th anniversary of this event that raises funds for people in need. Stir Hadash Reconstructionist Synagogue is gearing up for the High Holidays. On Saturday, Sept. 20, a Selichot service will feature a special screening of the film "Praying With Lior," a tender documentary focusing on the profoundly special relationship Lior Liebling, a boy with Down syndrome, has with prayer and God. Following the movie there will be a Selichot service that ushers in the themes, prayers and music of the Jewish High Holiday season. Refreshments will be served following the film and service.

The Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates Clergy Association will join its diverse congregations, ministries and organizations to collect food for local food pantries in the area beginning Saturday, Sept. 20. In addition, SHECA will partner with local schools to meet specific hunger-related needs.

Through Sunday, Oct. 5, many of the organization's partners will collect items that will be distributed to pantries and to seven District 54 schools as part of the "Before School Breakfast Program."

SHECA has been in the community for more than 30 years and members include Protestant, Catholic and Jewish clergy plus leaders from the Muslim faith.

Our Saviour's United Methodist Church in Schaumburg will continue its 50th anniversary celebration Sunday, Sept. 21, with the return of founding pastor, the Rev. Howard Benson. The September event for the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Elk Grove Village, will highlight the church's musical heritage in a Vespers Hymn Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. Harvest Bible Chapel, with campuses in Rolling Meadows, Elgin, Niles and Crystal Lake, is hosting special events this weekend, Sept. 20-21, to celebrate the anniversary of 20 years of ministry. Among the planned events is the continuation of the sermon series "Authentic Jesus," taught by the Rev. James MacDonald, senior pastor.

Also in store is the release of the live worship recording "Lift Up the Name," a CD that features many original worship songs written by Harvest worship leaders and recorded at Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin.

Harvest Bible Chapel started in Rolling Meadows on Sept. 18, 1988, with 18 people. By 2003, the church had grown to 6,000 worshippers and today has about 11,000 attendees at its four campuses.

The Ladies of St. Marcelline, 822 S.
