On to Pepsi semis for Larkin

Knotted at 0-0 after the half, Danny Hinterlong got Larkin (7-0) on the board as the Royals faced Lyons among the final eight teams in the Pepsi Showdown boys soccer tournament Thursday. Lyons tied things up, but a Michael Berequin goal in overtime lifted the Royals past Lyons 2-1. Raul Sandoval assisted both Larkin knocks, while Raziel Somarriba racked up 7 saves to keep the Royals in the game. Larkin will face Geneva in the semifinals at Lyons on Saturday.

Streamwood 3, WW South 2: Trailing 1-0 at the half, Streamwood coach Matt Polovin told his team to score 2 quick goals. Thirty seconds into the second half, Alex Lopez fired a rocket from 35 yards out to tie the game at 1-1. A goal from Roma Patino (Alex Perez assist) four minutes later put the Sabres (8-1-2) on top, and with little time remaining Alex Arand found Perez for the game-winner. Edgar Leyva recorded 6 saves in goal for Streamwood in the Pepsi Showdown game.

Huntley 1, Crystal Lake Central 0: In a battle of the bookends, Huntley (3-1-2, 2-1) came out on top of this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division double overtime match. Preserving the shutout was no easy task for Kevin Montelongo, who made 14 huge saves. With 3:38 left to play in the second overtime, Jesus Alejos served a free kick from 30-yards out to Javier Diaz who connected via the header for his first goal of the year.

Dundee-Crown 3, McHenry 1: Behind an aggressive attack, Dundee-Crown (4-5, 2-1) took a 3-0 first half lead and never looked back in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Ricardo Carrillo, Roger Bravo and Tony Meza each scored for the Chargers, while Josh Cook (3 saves) and Eddie Fuentes (3 saves) shared time in goal.

Keith School 3, Westminster Christian 0: Scott Saturik tallied 8 saves in goal for the Warriors in this nonconference loss.

Jacobs 5, Woodstock 1: With a pair of goals from Mike Wallace and single finishes from Mark Kyszka, John Kowalski and Matt Ehrhardt, Jacobs (3-2-2, 1-1) dominated this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division matchup. Wallace, Ehrhardt, Wallace, Luis Cabral, Alex Lischka and Sam McKee added assists, while Danny Trevor (4 saves) defended the net.

Hinckley-Big Rock 4, Hamshire2: Tied 2-2 at the half, the Whip-Purs fell short in nonconference action to Hinckley-Big Rock. Austin Buck led Hampshire scoring the first goal unassisted. John Cabral also managed to find the back of the net off an assist from Jason Bishop. Marcus Quick was in goal collecting 8 saves for Hampshire.

Glenbard North 5, South Elgin 2: Despite late goals from Bart Mazurek and Matt Shipon, South Elgin (3-5) fell in nonconference play.
