Learn about safety in McHenry

Safe Day in the Park by Kimball Hill Homes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at Legend Lakes, 325 Tralee Lane, McHenry.

Fire trucks will be on display at the new fire station on Dartmoor; meet the McHenry Firemen. Fingerprinting will be courtesy of the McHenry Police. Also included will be a moonwalk, train rides, carnival games and popcorn.

Fall festival set in South Elgin

South Elgin Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, 746 W. Spring Street, South Elgin is hosting a Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23. The event includes a health fair, crafts, food, games and prizes.

Give the gift of life at church drive

King of Glory Lutheran Church will host a blood drive in conjunction with Life Source from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 on the church grounds at 36W720 Hopps Road in Elgin. Community food drive continues The United Way of Elgin presents the 14th annual Day of Caring with a Community Food Drive, a chance to "Live United" through the month of August and help the United Way keep local food pantries stocked.

Donations will be collected at participating businesses, the United Way of Elgin office at 2022 Larkin Ave., or at any local fire station. Volunteers will sort and distribute items to local food pantries on the Day of Caring, Sept. 5.
